Neptune Beach, Alameda, California, old postcards, photos and other historic images

Neptune Beach, Alameda, California, old postcards, photos and other historic images provide a great visual look back at Neptune Beach’s history. While Neptune Beach was the largest, other beach resorts included, Sunny Cove Baths, Surf Beach Park and Terrace Baths.

Many people are surprised to learn that Alameda had popular bathing beaches, because the water in the San Francisco Bay is generally pretty cold to swim in. A description of Alameda’s South Shore Beach from around 1920 described, “When the tide is low, the sun rays warm the sand, which raises the temperature of the water at high tide, making this a famous bathing place.”
