The San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge opened to automobile traffic on Nov. 12, 1936. The 6.5 mile long, double deck structure, had 9 lanes for autos and trucks and two lanes for interurban trains. The bridge includes a bore tunnel through Yerba Buena Island. The following old postcards and other images of the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge provide a great visual look back at the Bay Bridge’s history.
