San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, old postcards photos and other historic images, provide a great visual history of the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge, which opened to automobile traffic on Nov. 12, 1936. The 6.5 mile long, double deck structure, had 9 lanes for autos and trucks and two lanes for interurban trains. The bridge includes a bore tunnel through Yerba Buena Island.
